Free Easter Bus Travel for Children and Youth in Leicestershire

This Easter, children and youth throughout Leicestershire have the opportunity to enjoy complimentary bus travel.

The offer applies to single fares and returns, available for boarding between 9:30 am and 11 pm on weekdays, and all day on weekends and bank holidays, from March 23rd to April 7th.

Passengers under 16 must present proof of age when boarding buses within the county. Participating operators include Arriva, Centrebus, Diamond Bus East Midlands, First, Kinchbus, Nottingham City Transport, and Stagecoach. Eligibility for free travel varies depending on the operator, so travelers are advised to consult operator websites for specific age restrictions and route details before their journey.

Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, cabinet member for highways and transport at Leicestershire County Council, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Enhancing travel accessibility creates numerous opportunities for young people in Leicestershire. Not only does it encourage exploration within their communities, but it also promotes sustainable transportation choices – a win-win situation for all parties involved. We hope that by demonstrating the ease of bus travel to young people, we inspire them to opt for public transportation in the future.”

This initiative for free child and youth bus fares is facilitated by the Leicestershire Enhanced Bus Partnership, a collaboration between the county council and bus operators, funded by the Department of Transport’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).
