Residents in Earl Shilton will soon receive their new food waste recycling caddies as Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council rolls out its weekly food waste collection service.
Deliveries of the kitchen caddies will begin across the borough on Monday 16 February and will take place over a six-week period. Homes in Earl Shilton are scheduled to receive their caddies by 28 February.
What This Means for Earl Shilton
Once delivered, food waste will be collected weekly on the same day as your usual waste and recycling collection.
The new service:
- Will not cost residents anything extra
- Is mandated by the Government
- Is fully funded by central government
- Aims to reduce the amount of food waste sent to landfill
The council says the scheme is part of a nationwide effort to cut environmental impact and increase recycling rates.
What Can Go in the Caddy?
Residents will be able to place common household food waste into their new caddies, including:
- Leftover cooked food
- Fruit and vegetable peelings
- Meat and fish (including bones)
- Bread and dairy products
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
Further guidance will be provided with the caddies and on the council’s website.
Delivery Timeline Across the Borough
While Earl Shilton residents can expect delivery by 28 February, other areas will receive theirs later in the rollout:
- By 7 March: Rural villages including Congerstone, Twycross and Sibson
- By 21 March: Hinckley, Burbage, Higham on the Hill and Witherley
A delivery map has been published by the council, allowing residents to check their area.
