Police and borough council officers have shut down a council flat in Ronald Toon Road, Earl Shilton, after months of persistent anti-social behaviour. A closure order was granted by Leicester Magistrates’ Court following long-standing concerns raised by neighbours, including elderly and vulnerable residents living nearby.
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, working alongside Leicestershire Police, collected evidence of ongoing problems at the property. Complaints included loud noise, strong smells of drugs, frequent police callouts, and incidents of criminal damage such as smashed windows. Residents also reported feeling intimidated by the behaviour linked to the flat and the number of people regularly visiting it.
The closure order, issued on Friday, November 14 and officially served on Monday, November 17, prevents anyone from entering the flat for three months. Ronald Toon Road contains several council flats as well as Tom Eatough Court, a council-owned housing scheme for older people.
In a statement, the council said closure orders are used to protect communities by stopping anti-social behaviour in and around problem properties. They encouraged anyone else affected by similar issues to get in touch.
Councillor Michael Mullaney, the borough council’s executive member for housing and community safety, said: “Our first response is always to work with residents and tenants to find the right support for any issues within the community, but we will take formal action when that does not resolve the problem.
“Everyone has the right to live in peace and enjoy their home without fear of ongoing anti-social behaviour from neighbours.”
Residents experiencing anti-social behaviour within Hinckley and Bosworth can contact the council’s dedicated team on 01455 238141. People living outside the borough should contact their own local council for assistance.
