Residents in Hinckley are set to lose another high street bank after Lloyds Banking Group confirmed it will close its Hinckley branch on 10 June 2026.
The branch, located in The Borough, currently sits next to the former McDonald’s restaurant site which closed decades ago and has never reopened. Its closure will mark another significant change for Hinckley town centre.
Part of Nationwide Closures
Hinckley is one of 95 branches across the UK set to close under the group’s latest round of cuts. The closures include 53 Lloyds Bank branches, 31 Halifax sites and 11 Bank of Scotland branches.
The Hinckley branch is one of two closing in Leicestershire, alongside Coalville.
The banking giant says the move reflects changing customer habits, with more people choosing to bank online rather than visiting physical branches. After the planned closures are complete, Lloyds will still operate 610 branches nationwide.
The company has not confirmed how many staff will be affected but says employees at impacted branches will be offered roles elsewhere within the business.
What It Means for Hinckley Residents
A spokesperson for Lloyds told local radio station Fosse 107 that customers will continue to have access to services through online banking, the mobile app, local Post Offices and cash services at PayPoint locations.
They also confirmed that a new Banking Hub is set to open in Hinckley before the Lloyds branch closes, ensuring there is no break in face-to-face banking services.
Council Reaction
Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Stuart Bray, said he was “very disappointed” by the decision.
He said:
“This is yet another in a long line of branch closures nationally, largely driven by the move towards digital banking.
While many people now bank online, this decision is another blow to our high street and to those residents who either do not wish to use online banking or simply cannot — particularly those without access to Wi-Fi, a smartphone or the confidence to manage their finances digitally.”
However, the council confirmed that LINK — the body responsible for assessing access to cash — has approved a new Banking Hub for Hinckley. The hub will be delivered by Cash Access UK and is expected to open before Lloyds shuts its doors.
Councillor Bray added that details about the location and opening date of the hub will be shared as soon as they are confirmed.
Continued Changes for the High Street
The closure adds to ongoing changes in Hinckley town centre, as traditional high street banking continues to decline across the UK.
For some residents and businesses, particularly those who rely on in-person banking and cash services, the loss of the Lloyds branch will be a significant change.
More updates on the Banking Hub and support available for customers will be published once further details are released.
