A former employee of a funeral directors in Earl Shilton has admitted stealing around £21,000 from her employer, with sentencing delayed while prosecutors consider whether to pursue a higher amount.
Laura Gamble, 39, who worked as a personal funeral adviser at the Co-op Funeralcare branch in Earl Shilton, appeared at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday (January 6). She had been due to be sentenced for fraud and theft offences originally totalling £32,320.
The court heard that Gamble has entered a “basis of plea”, admitting responsibility for approximately £21,000 of the total sum. Prosecutors said the Crown Prosecution Service is still considering whether to accept that figure.
Gamble’s barrister told the court that the offending took place in 2023 but that her client was not charged until the summer of 2025, describing the delay as significant. The court was also told that Gamble, of New Street, Blaby, has repaid the £21,000 she admits taking.
Judge Balraj Bhatia ordered a four-week adjournment to allow the Crown Prosecution Service time to decide whether to accept the reduced figure. Gamble has been ordered to return to court next month.
