A much-loved Earl Shilton chippy is celebrating 50 years of serving the community.
Chris’s Fish and Chips, on West Street, first opened in 1975 when founders Chris and Elizabeth Kyriacou set up their family-run shop. Since then, it has become a local institution, known for its freshly cooked fish, golden chips, and warm welcome.
The couple’s son, Strad Kyriacou, described the Earl Shilton shop as the “cornerstone” of the family business. “It all started here in Earl Shilton,” he said. “People know us for our quality food and friendly service, and we’ve been proud to welcome generations of families through our doors.”
Today, the Earl Shilton branch is managed by Mario Kyriacou, who continues the legacy of his parents. Over the years, the success of the original shop has inspired the family to expand, with branches later opening in Hinckley and Barwell.
But Earl Shilton remains at the heart of the story. The shop has won a host of awards, including national recognition at the British Takeaway Awards, and even featured on ITV’s X-Factor and the BBC’s Britain’s Top Takeaways.
To celebrate five decades in business, Chris’s Fish and Chips is offering 50p portions of chips every day throughout September at all three branches. The Earl Shilton shop will also host a special half-price fish and chips day on Monday, September 8.
Reflecting on the milestone, Strad said: “We are incredibly grateful to the people of Earl Shilton. Their loyalty and support over the years have made everything possible. This is where it all began, and Earl Shilton will always be the heart of Chris’s Fish and Chips.”
