Police investigations are ongoing following a road traffic collision on Ashby Road in Barwell earlier this week.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening (20 May) when a vehicle left the road and came to rest in a hedge. The two occupants reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived. Despite an area search supported by the National Police Air Service (NPAS), they were not located.
While the vehicle was being recovered, a suspicious item was discovered in the rear of the car. As a precaution, a cordon was established and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called in to examine the object.
Following a full assessment, the item was confirmed to be non-suspicious and posed no threat. The cordon was lifted and the road was reopened shortly afterward.
Police have confirmed that enquiries into the collision are still ongoing.
