
Armed police were called to a park in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire, in the early hours of Wednesday (May 7) following reports of a teenager carrying a knife and a firearm. The incident led to the arrest of a 16-year-old boy.
Officers responded around 3:30am to concerns about the teenager’s welfare. Upon arrival at the park near High Street, police encountered a boy allegedly in possession of a knife and what appeared to be a firearm.
To ensure the safety of both the public and officers, armed units and trained negotiators were deployed. A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police confirmed that a baton round was discharged during the operation due to the seriousness of the situation. The boy sustained bruising to his leg but did not require hospital treatment.
The teenager was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm and carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
