Earl Shilton Town Council is reaching out to residents for their thoughts on the future of the annual Town Show, as participation in recent years has seen a decline. The event traditionally features competitions in baking, crafts, flowers, and vegetables, bringing the community together to showcase local talent. However, with fewer entries in the past couple of years, the council is considering changes to reinvigorate interest and engagement.
Consultation on Future Plans
The council has proposed several options and is inviting feedback from residents on which direction they would like the event to take. The options under consideration include:
- Reduced Town Show Categories & Incorporation of a Dog Show – Keeping a smaller number of traditional categories while adding a dog show to attract pet lovers.
- Reduced Town Show Categories & Incorporation of a Pet Show – Similar to the dog show option but open to all types of pets.
- Reduced Town Show Categories & Craft Fair – Shifting focus towards handmade crafts while maintaining some competition elements.
- Reduced Town Show Categories & Afternoon Tea with Live Music – A more relaxed, social event featuring refreshments and entertainment.
- Leaving the Town Show As It Is – Keeping the event in its current format, despite the lower participation.
How to Have Your Say
The council is keen to ensure the Town Show reflects the wishes of the community and is encouraging all Earl Shilton residents to take part in the consultation process.
This is a chance for locals to shape the future of a longstanding community event and help determine whether new elements should be introduced to make it more appealing and inclusive.
