A section of the M69 motorway in Leicestershire is set to close for essential maintenance, according to National Highways. Drivers are being advised to prepare for potential disruption as work is carried out on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 1 (Hinckley) and Junction 21 of the M1 (Whetstone).
Initially scheduled for mid-January, the works have been rescheduled and will now take place from the evening of Friday, 31 January, to the early morning of Monday, 3 February.
Scope of the Work
The planned maintenance will cover a 17-mile stretch of the M69, which connects Coventry to Leicester. Key activities include:
- Road lining completion: Road markings and studs will be installed to enhance lane visibility.
- High-friction surface installation: This material will improve skid resistance, increasing safety for motorists.
- Traffic monitoring loops: A set of loops will be installed to monitor traffic flow along the route.
Minimizing Impact
National Highways has assured residents and businesses that access will be maintained wherever possible during the closure. Fully signed diversion routes will also be in place to help motorists navigate alternative routes.
The closure will be enforced nightly from 20:00 GMT to 06:00 over the four-day period. Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays.
Enhancing Road Safety
This maintenance effort is part of an ongoing commitment to improve road conditions and safety on key routes. The addition of high-friction surfaces and updated road markings will ensure safer travel for drivers using this busy motorway corridor.
