Plans to expand Earl Shilton in Leicestershire with the construction of 1,500 new homes have received approval.
The proposed extension covers 104 acres of land off Clickers Lane and includes provisions for a new school, community hub, shops, and employment land.
This project, known as the Earl Shilton Sustainable Urban Extension, is a collaboration between Bloor Homes, Jelson Homes, and Barwood Land.
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council’s planning committee voted to approve the application on Tuesday, despite concerns raised about highway arrangements and the proximity of employment land to residences.
The committee approved the plans with a vote of 10 to three, with three members abstaining. Planning officials had recommended approval before the meeting.
Designs indicate that the site will be accessed via new roads from the A47, Mill Lane, and Astley Road.
Developers have agreed to contribute nearly £22 million towards local services and facilities, including the construction of the new primary school.
While the development has been approved in principle, specific details will be finalized at a later stage.
