“Thieves Ransack Leicestershire Charity, Stealing Cash and Van”
A distressing video has exposed the aftermath of a break-in at a Leicestershire charity, where thieves “ransacked” the premises. Worklink Hinckley, which receives and distributes donations of furniture, electrical appliances, and other goods to those in need and sells them in its shop, was targeted.
Footage captured by staff after the burglary on Sunday, May 12, shows shattered glass littering the floor and a smashed office door. The intruders stole cash from the offices and made off with one of the charity’s two delivery vans.
Worklink Hinckley collaborates with Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council to provide essential goods to people fleeing domestic violence and asylum seekers. Project manager Mandy Chapman described the burglary as a “massive shock.” She said, “The charity has been running for over 38 years, and we’ve never experienced anything like this. Adding to the stress, we are in the process of relocating, and now we have to deal with the aftermath of this break-in. The thieves took some cash but were mainly after the van keys.
“Financially, it’s a blow as we had to hire a replacement van. It’s also been a shock to our service users and has disrupted our operations. We are still working to vacate our current premises within a few weeks. Some council-referred clients require goods within 48 hours, and this incident has delayed our services by a few days.”
Leicestershire Police have appealed for anyone with information about the burglary to report it via their website or by calling 101, quoting crime reference 24*278577.
