Warning to residents of a potential scam from a suspicious man who calls himself ‘The Protector’

Police officers from the Barwell and Earl Shilton Beat Team have issued a cautionary message to local residents regarding a potential scam orchestrated by an individual referring to himself as ‘The Protector’.

The alert was triggered during routine patrols conducted by officers in the mentioned areas on the 17th of August. Community members raised concerns about a suspicious man who was claiming to be “acquainted with the superintendent of Leicestershire Police” and was peddling supposed ‘protection services’.

According to information sourced from Neighbourhood Link, ‘The Protector’ engaged in conversations with at least one individual, outlining a new business concept. Under this proposition, he purportedly intended to provide safeguarding and assistance to older and more vulnerable citizens for a monthly fee of £25, slated to commence next month.

The suspect has been characterized as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, possessing tanned complexion, sporting a goatee, and falling within the age range of mid-30s to early 40s.

Fortunately, the individual who was approached by ‘The Protector’ did not divulge any sensitive information that might have rendered them susceptible to a scam.

A spokesperson from the Beat Team emphasized, “Should anyone approach you with an offer for this so-called ‘protection service’, we urge you to contact us immediately!”

To communicate incidents that do not require urgent attention, you can easily reach out to the officers by dialing their non-emergency helpline at 101. Additionally, these incidents can also be reported online through their official website.
