Arrest made in A47 crossroads garage assault and bilking

Officers have arrested a man following an assault and bilking at a garage in Desford.

Police received a call at around 6.10pm last night (24 August) to an incident at a garage at the junction with Desford Lane and A47 Hinckley Road.

It was reported that a man had attempted to make off with paying for fuel and when challenged by a member of staff, the staff member sustained a slash wound to his arm and chest.

He received hospital treatment and his injuries are not described as life threatening or life changing.

Officers were quick to the location to secure the scene and take an initial account from witnesses.

As a registration number for the vehicle was provided, officers were able to track the vehicle and it was stopped in Earl Shilton a short time later.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH and remains in custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

Detective Sergeant Lee Owen, from Braunstone CID, said: “Due to the quick response of the attending officers, we were able to carry out early crucial enquiries who assisted us in locating the suspect in the offending vehicle shortly after the report.

“Our enquiries remain ongoing into the incident and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened and hasn’t as yet spoken to police to please get in touch.”
